– New displays offer superior image enhancement of live video to improve critical tactical surveillance missions –
SAN DIEGO – July 8, 2009 — Z Microsystems, a leading provider of mission-ready computing systems, today announced the availability of the Intelligent Display Series (IDS) with real-time enhanced video (RTEV). The new LCD display panels use a high-powered FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) to execute image enhancement algorithms in real time for live video surveillance feeds such as those applicable to Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV).
The IDS display applies image enhancement and edge detection algorithms to incoming video streams without adding latency. A sophisticated image enhancement algorithm brings out the detail from images degraded by poor visibility or atmospheric interference. The edge detection algorithm identifies anomalous shapes and highlights details for surveillance and bomb damage assessment (BDA). Operators can turn image functions on or off with the click of a button.
IDS displays with RTEV add distinct benefits to ground stations:
- Clarifies images with contrast enhancement that continuously adapts to changing brightness and contrast
- Brightens or darkens for dusk and dawn viewing
- Secondary feed for PIP (Picture In Picture) insert of RGB or NTSC can be scaled, positioned, and alpha blended into primary image. Option available for Chroma-keying
- Dehazes images for fog and sand storm environments
- Functions can be controlled through front panel or remotely

The new IDS display has third generation electronics and frame assemblies that enable seamless integration of new LCD panels. They are qualified to MIL-SPECS and designed for military environments, including shock, vibration, EMI, temperature, and humidity.
